Tottenham defender becomes club ambassador minutes after announcing retirement

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson has this morning announced his retirement from professional football.

Dawson wrote:

"After 20 incredible seasons I have decided that now is the right time for me to retire from playing professional football. It's been an amazing journey and I've loved every minute, creating memories that will be with me forever and I feel lucky to have experienced so many unforgettable moments through my career." 

Most recently, Dawson was plying his trade at Nottingham Forest, where he has made 121 appearances since joining the club in 2018.

Former club Tottenham Hotspur were quick to pay tribute to the defender on social media, with the defender having made 324 appearances for the north London outfit in a stint spanning nine years.

Just minutes after announcing his retirement, Spurs announced the English centre-back as their new club ambassador, and it's safe to say, Tottenham fans were happy with the announcement.
